Philadelphia’s First Birth Center In 40 Years Opens Summer 2027
Access to maternity care in Philadelphia is shrinking, with just six hospitals serving nearly 19,000 births annually. Philadelphia Midwife Collective’s Birth Center and it’s expanded programs will help us reach over 250 families annually, over 10% of local births, and build a sustainable model of community-centered reproductive healthcare for years to come.
Philadelphia currently has zero birth centers. PMC’s future location in Northwest Philadelphia will help change that, expanding access to compassionate, culturally responsive midwifery care alongside affordable reproductive and well-person services.
The birth center will provide a welcoming space for evidence-based care and support throughout the reproductive lifespan. An investment in this vision is a commitment to health, equity, and belonging, and to the belief that every family deserves to begin its story with support and hope.
Community Care Campaign - Built With & For The Community
With more than half of our $2.4 million comprehensive campaign goal raised, construction is underway, and we anticipate welcoming families to the birth center as early as summer 2027.
Realizing our full vision will require completing Phase 2, including the buildout of the second and third floors. Your support will help expand our programs, increase the number of families we serve, and create a lasting home for accessible, community-based care. DOORS OPEN SUMMER 2027
The complete renovation will create two birth suites, clinical space, administrative space, community space, laundry room, and a kitchen.
In 2025 we broke ground at our new birth center, and teamed up with Hivemind Construction to complete the demolition phase of development.
PHASE 1: Opening the first floor - GOAL REACHED!
Build the core functions of the new birth center and begin working with clients in the new space as early as summer 2027.
PHASE 2: COMPLETING THE VISION - NEXT MILESTONE!
Complete the second and third floors to support the full center. This will increase number of families served and provide more robust health, wellness and community services for local families.
Our future birth suites: With beautiful natural light, these suites will have tubs, beds, and all the comforts for families welcoming their babies.
Community room and porch: These spaces will be home to our groups and classes, as well as spaces for relaxation
