PMC is creating a birth center in Northwest Philadelphia where families can access compassionate, culturally responsive care and feel heard, respected, and supported.
Our $3.5 million Community Care Campaign will create the spaces, grow the team, and expand access to services needed to build a sustainable home for community-centered care.
Our birth center and expanded programs will allow us to support more than 250 births each year, bringing personalized midwifery care, education, and support to more people in our community. Together, we can build a sustainable model of reproductive healthcare where families feel heard, respected, and supported throughout their lives.

Philadelphia currently has no freestanding birth centers. Philadelphia Midwife Collective is working to change that, creating a welcoming home in Northwest Philadelphia for compassionate, culturally responsive birth care, reproductive health services, and well-person care.
As an LGBTQIA+- and BIPOC-led organization, PMC puts inclusion and access at the heart of its work. PMC accepts Medicaid and offers sliding-scale options, currently utilized by 65% of clients with low-to-moderate incomes. Our hospital privileges and clinical relationships with Jefferson Einstein support continuity of care throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, including coordination when hospital care is needed.

Thanks to our community of supporters, we have reached 40% of our campaign goal, with $2.1 million remaining to bring the full vision to life.
Build the Space | $1.5 Million
Transform our building into a welcoming home for birth, reproductive healthcare, and community connection. Four renovation phases will create birth suites, clinical and wellness spaces, gathering areas, and the support spaces needed to care for families.
Grow the Team | $1 Million
Invest in the people who will open and operate the center. Funding will support compensation adjustments for current staff and one year of salary and benefits for additional roles, including an Executive Director, Certified Nurse-Midwives and a Registered Nurse.
Expand Access | $1 Million
Our Equity Fund will subsidize services and community programming, helping reduce financial barriers so more people can receive care, find support, and participate in the life of the center.

Bringing the Birth Center to Life. Target opening: Summer 2027
Our campaign will transform the building in four phases.
Phase 1: Birth Center Opening
Create the first-floor spaces needed to begin birth center services, including a birth suite, kitchen, clinical space, and administrative space.
Phase 2: Second Birth Suite + Community Space
Add a second birth suite and community space on the first floor, creating more room for families and connection.
Phase 3: Second Floor Space
Develop the second floor with three exam rooms for wellness providers and additional community space.
Phase 4: Third Floor Space
Complete the final floor with space for care coordination and documentation, on-call staff, and birth center administration.
Our future birth suites: With beautiful natural light, these suites will have tubs, beds, and all the comforts for families welcoming their babies.
Community room and porch: These spaces will be home to our groups and classes, as well as spaces for relaxation
